Witches Win Semi-Final ----- just!

Radford Rockets stretched the Witches to the limit in an enthralling semi-final. Radford looked nothing like the side thrashed 7-0 just a week earlier as, boosted by three juniors and with nothing to lose, they took the game right up to the Witches. After surviving a couple of early scares the Witches scored first when Natina was on the spot to prod the ball home after Milly's screamer hit the underside of the bar. Unfazed, Radford hit back taking full advantage of some uncharacteristically sloppy defending by the Witches. The Witches regained the lead shortly after when Natina was first to Kristy's through ball. But Radford still wouldn't lie down, equalising not long after, making good use of the Witches slipshod marking. To the Witches credit they fought back and took the lead for the third time when Natina recovered the ball out on the left flank before turning the defense on her way to goal. This time Radford had no comeback and the Witches went two up six minutes from the break. Kristy and Natina again combining to good effect. The Witches were now well on top and should have killed the game off before the break but contrived to miss three glorious chances. The second half was not so prolific in goals but the intensity and excitement was just as high with The Witches content to absorb Radford's pressure then break quickly on the counter attack. All was going reasonably well until Lizzie was injured, requiring a reshuffle in defense. As the Witches tried to re-adjust Radford seized the opportunity, an unmarked forward crashing the ball into the net from 10m. With 15 mins to go the atmosphere was electric but the Witches toughed it out. There was further drama and confusion when the referee took ill with 10 mins on the clock and had to be replaced by one of his assistants but the Witches remained unfazed, hanging on to their precious one goal lead until the final whistle.
